Understanding Zones and Ranges
These are some ranges and spacings to be cognizant of while playing and practicing:
- Z1: Being on Battlefield/Dreamland side platform versus a grounded opponent underneath the opposite platform
- Z2: Being on Battlefield/Dreamland side platform versus a grounded opponent in the middle of the stage
- Z3: Being on Battlefield/Dreamland top platform versus a grounded opponent
- Z4: Being on Yoshi's Story platform versus a grounded opponent
- Z5: Being on the ground of Yoshi's Story versus an opponent towards the sides of the stage
- Z6: Being on Pokemon Stadium platform versus a grounded opponent underneath the opposite platform
- Z7: Being on Pokemon Stadium platform versus a grounded opponent in the middle of the stage
These ranges are more general spacings and are less stage dependent:
- G1: Short range - a distance where you can hit them with down smash
- G2: Medium range - about 1/3 of Dreamland
- G3: Long range - edge of Battlefield/Dreamland to the middle of the opposite side platform or longer
Note: these ranges are omnidirectional - both horizontal range and vertical range is important
